Do you remember the 2002 movie “Minority Report” starring Tom Cruise? Set in Washington D.C. in 2054, the movie tells a story about the PreCrime team leader John Anderton (Tom Cruise) whose job is to prevent crimes by foreseeing the time, location and even perpetrator of crime using a crime prediction system. Such a system sounds too unrealistic to exist anywhere outside movies, but the same data analysis and prediction methods are actually being used in real life. Then, how are these data actually analyzed to predict the future, and how are the results being applied to our lives? At the center of all this is the Artificial Intelligence (AI).

In fact, there is a crime prevention system in San Francisco that uses big data to analyze crime patterns from the past and predict occurrence of crime. Test results show that the system’s prediction of crime occurrence actually comes true in the specific place nearly 7 times out of 10. Other than this, things that used to seem only possible in movies or in a distant future have been realized and being used in many parts of our lives, thanks to the fast development of AI technology.

LG Electronics’ learning center is holding a seminar on AI to introduce the current state of AI technology and share the challenges we should overcome in each field. The ThinQ.AI developer site will introduce a series of contents for the AI seminar from April 22 to June 3, so please look forward to this opportunity!
